From: The PHS 50+ Combined Reunion Committee
This letter is addressed to those who attended Pocatello High School 50 or more years ago. Many of us have had a high school class reunion every five years since graduation, but with each passing half-decade it becomes more difficult for the reunion committee to put on a meaningful reunion. Is there an easier way to get together?
Here is our plan: Each year there will be a combined reunion luncheon for all class members who have been out of high school more than 50 years. Each class and the entire group will dine and party together in one large room. Since all PHS students have much in common, there will be a great amount of companionship and enjoyment among classes.
The logistics are as follows: After each 50th year class reunion, all of the locatable members of that class will be mailed an invitation to attend the general PHS 50+ combined reunion the next summer. If a class member opts to attend, there will be a calculated cost for the luncheon plus $5.00 per couple for being maintained on the combined reunion mailing list. Guests, spouses or the like, are charged just the cost for the luncheon. If one chooses not to attend the luncheon but wants to be kept informed of future activities, you may be put/kept on the mailing list register for the yearly $5.00 fee. The PHS 50+ committee, which consists of interested members from various classes, will take care of the subsequent yearly mailings, the invitations, keeping track of the responses, and arranging for the luncheon. The $5.00 covers the cost of postage and clerical work.
This system has been highly successful in many other communities, and it is fun to visit with all the wonderful people who attended PHS. The location and time for our reunion will remain as constant as possible. The Chamber of Commerce or the Visitors Bureau will provide information on accommodations, local activities and the like. We hope you will make plans to join us.
Having this type of reunion does not preclude having the traditional affair if so desired. However, this system cuts work for the usual reunion committee and reduces the total work involved per each reunion. The cost is less and the comradery is at least equal.
Those who register will receive an RSVP form in July for the Saturday luncheon and Sunday morning buffet.
